Clock Tower

$875.00

The work talks about the top of the city of Nablus, the clock tower in Nablus, or the lighthouse, an archaeological tower dating back to the Ottoman era in Palestine. It is located in the middle of the old square in the center of Nablus, “Bab Al Saha”, and it is one of the 7 towers in the cities of Palestine that was built in the year 1901 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II ascending the Ottoman throne (other towers are located in Jerusalem, Jaffa, Haifa, Safed, Nazareth, Acre – but the Al-Quds Tower was demolished by the British forces when they entered the city). Ahmed Al-Sarwan, the philanthropist, built the clock tower, as he was the chief builder in Nablus at the time. When the clock was built, he was awarded a medal of honor by the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II in the name “Sirwan”.
It is considered one of the most important surviving Ottoman architectural monuments.
